Mahabir moves to NFM

Jul 04, 2014

Kelvin Mahabir, former president of investTT, has been appointed the new chief executive of National Flour Mills (NFM).

Mahabir began work at the state enterprise on Tuesday. The task of finding a chief executive for NFM has been a challenge since 2009, after Neil Rolingson resigned. In 2012, the candidate selected as the chief executive, Brian Frontin, was met with strong opposition by the then board of directors because he had not yet completed his Master of Business Administration (MBA), which was a requirement of the job.

In November 2012, the company then recruited Darren Gosine, a former local and export brand manager with Misons Industries Ltd and former marketing director at Comprehensive Insurance Brokers Ltd, for the post, but his tenure lasted just four months.

By June 2013, NFM announced the appointment of Mokesh Ramlal, the company’s financial controller, as acting chief executive.

The Express understands that the selection of Mahabir as chief executive was a long process as the board wanted the incoming executive’s vision to dovetail with its own goal of transforming the company.
